ABSTRACT
This paper is concerned with analyzing and evaluating the performance of the mega industrial projects and related urban development in Suez Canal Zone, Egypt, particularly the industrial free zones in east Port-Said and northwest Gulf of Suez. The analysis is mainly focused on the
development concept of the urban, environmental and infrastructure of these projects until 2022.

The investigation of the development potentials and constraints of Suez Canal zone is used to define the strategic and national objectives of developing the mega and urban projects in Suez Canal zone. International experiences of establishing industrial free zones in other
countries are also examined to provide background experiences and outline planning and environmental issues that may arise during development process of industrial zones in east Port-Said and northwest Gulf of Suez. The research also reviewed the main principles and
criteria of evaluation, especially evaluation of regulations, decisions, physical planning development and management, which used as a background for the evaluation of these mega projects.

The research focused on evaluating the physical planning concepts and related urban development of the free industrial mega projects through analyzing their main objectives; project locations; evolution of physical development overtime including services and infrastructure; labor force population, existing physical size and condition; and modification
possibilities. Finally, guidelines and recommendations are proposed for a framework that would enhance and support the growth rate and development performance of these projects.
