ABSTRACT

The key to designing and operating safe piping systems is to control the pulsation levels and

separate the mechanical natural frequencies from the pulsation excitation frequencies
. A

technique for displaying mode shapes of piping systems using a computer-based simulation

system is used.

The mode shapes in pipeline model are showed by using the computer based graphics. These

graphical techniques help illustrate the vibratory nature of piping system to improve one’s

understanding of the modal analysis of pipelines.

This paper is concerned with a theoretical investigation to study the free vibration characteristics

of a gas pipeline model. The model is supported-ends using anchors. The solution is based on the

finite element method by the PC software "CAEPIPE". The natural frequencies and 20 mode

shapes of a supported-ends buried gas pipeline model are calculated.
