ABSTRACT

This paper presents the results of an investigation on the effect of volume fraction of fine

aggregate (VFFA) on the mechanical properties and impact resistance of high strength

concrete (HSC) and fiber reinforced concrete (FRC). Five values of VFFA ranged from 33.33

to 66.67 are chosen. The impact resistance of four different coated materials is also examined

in the present work. The optimum value of compressive and indirect tensile strength of FRC

is obtained at specific surface area (SSA) of combined aggregate equals 28 cm
2/gm. However,

the strength of HSC decreased with increasing SSA of combined aggregate.

ACI drop-weight impact test failed to show the effect of VFFA on the impact resistance of

HSC and FRC. ACI drop-weight impact test failed again to compare between the different

coated materials. In general, FRC showed higher resistance to first crack and failure than

those of HSC without and with coating.
