ABSTRACT

The paper reports an experimental and theoretical investigation into bearing capacity of stable

loaded strip-footing resting on laterally confined subgrade by vertical grouting diaphragm

wall as a vertical reinforced element. The main notions of this paper to more understand how

to strengthening of the subgrade layer under shallow existing footing on sand and mitigation

the settlement. Loading tests on model footing reinforced by grouted diaphragm wall were

carried out to investigate the suitable dimensions of grouted wall to be injected along each

side of the model footing. The effect of width and depth of the grouted wall on the bearing

capacity failure and confined subgrade were explained. The results show that the bearing

capacity of reinforced subgrade clearly increased and the resulting bearing capacity failure

had modified. This technique was considered to be a good method to control the horizontal

movement of the subgrade and decreasing the vertical settlement.
